Welcome from our Principal
Dinnington High School is a vibrant and really inclusive school serving the town of Dinnington and many surrounding local villages. Student also cross the border from North Nottinghamshire to join us.
We are part of LEAP Multi-Academy Trust and share one vision across all our schools:
“Achieving excellence is the overriding ambition of our School and of our Trust. We place students at the centre of everything we do, creating a culture of success and a love of learning which enhances students’ achievements and their personal, social and emotional wellbeing.”
To fulfil this vision, we aim to inspire all our students at Dinnington High School, to grow their confidence, and to be the best they can be. At our heart, we aim to fulfil our Dinnington Way values every day: kindness, respect, excellence.
We pride ourselves on our school being a community based on strong relationships. We know our students well and value great relationships with our parents and carers.
We seek to praise and reward our students for upholding our values and trying their best in so many different ways. We aim to support them to find and fulfil their potential and become great members of society as well as great people in their own rights.
We fully recognise that children achieve excellence and succeed when they feel cared for and have productive and respectful relationships with the adults working with them and with other students. Lots of schools base their behaviour systems on sanctions and punishments, we base ours on relationships and restorative conversations. We seek to understand students’ behaviour in partnership with them, and help them to learn better ways of behaving as they grow up and mature.
We have high expectations in the classroom and around our site. Teachers have worked hard to gain an in-depth scientific understanding of children’s brains: how they develop and how they learn. This translates into lessons that truly help students to learn and retain that learning over time. Lessons are enjoyable and purposeful. They are not full of gimmicks.
In everything we do, we try to be our best. For some this is a strong academic pathway to good universities, for others a vocational or applied route to take them into great professions. Our PE and arts faculties play crucial roles developing the gifts and talents of students as well as offering enjoyment, creativity, and other pathways into employment. There is a place for every child at Dinnington.
Wrapped around the subjects and lessons, we have a huge array of extra opportunities. Student can be students leaders in any year group; they have already transformed our approach to the environment, for example. They can participate in school productions or a range of clubs from Harry Potter Club to Warhammer, crafting to science. Some students immerse themselves in all things active be that gym & dance, rounders, netball, football, rugby and Sports Leadership, linked to our primary schools. An array of trips and visits are offered from local visits to theatres, universities, employers, or along the Holderness coast through to trips further afield: the geography Bay of Naples visit, languages trips to France and Spain, Austria for the ski trip or our biennial sports tour: Canada & Seattle in 2018, South Africa in 2016. We will return to South Africa when lockdown allows.
By the end of their time as Dinnington High School students, every child has had opportunities to gather many happy memories, to have challenged themselves to be the best they can be, and to have lived and breathed the Dinnington Way: kindness, respect, and excellence.
